I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is still water leaking, turn off the service valve to the appliance or fixture if possible, or go straight to the main water valve for your home. If you’re unable to find a water valve to turn off, then you could try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside your house to depressurise the pipework and minimise the leak.

Once that is done, give our plumber a call, no matter what the day or time is. We will be there rapidly to resolve the problem.

While you wait for our plumber to arrive, start wiping up any water, position a container to catch any drips, and remove important items from the area. If the house water is turned off, then also switch off the heating for the hot water.
