I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

If there is still water leaking, turn off the tap to the appliance or fixture if you can, or go immediately to the main water valve for your home. If you are unable to find the water valve to turn off, then you can try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside the residence to depressurise the system and reduce the leak.

While waiting, remove any significant items close to the leak, and mop up any water or place a container to catch the drips. If you’ve turned the mains water off, switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
