I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

While you are waiting, clear away any important possessions close to the leak, and mop up any water or place a container to catch any drips. If you’ve turned the mains water off, also switch off the hot water heating as well.
