I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

While you are waiting, remove any significant items close to the leak, and wipe up any water or place a container to catch the drips. If you have turned the mains water off, switch off the heating for the hot water as well.
