I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

Many appliances and fixtures have service valves that you can turn off. For example, the toilet will have a tap below or beside the cistern. If you cannot locate a valve, or that does not stop the leak, then turn off the mains valve to cut off all the water to your property.

Once that’s sorted, give our plumber a call, whatever the day or time is. We’ll be with you promptly to fix the leak.

While waiting for our emergency plumber, clear away any significant items, mop up any water, and position a container to catch any drips. You also should turn off the hot water heating if the main water is turned off.
